The history of Azerçay
  1. 1970-1980

Between 1970 and 1980, 36 hectares were planted with tea and 34 tonnes of tea were produced. During that period, 15 factories were built and put into operation. Domestic tea production in Azerbaijan reached its peak in the mid-1980s. At that time the figure stood at 8,600 tonnes, while the area of tea plantations was 13,400 hectares. Azerbaijani tea met 8 to 10 percent of the tea demand of the USSR, with its population of 300 million. In those years, more than ten tea-processing factories operated in the southern region of Azerbaijan. At the same time, two large tea-packaging plants, employing thousands of workers, operated in Baku and Lankaran. Azerbaijani tea is a variety grown particularly in the southern regions of Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, tea is grown mostly in the Lankaran, Astara, Masalli, Zagatala, Gakh and Balakan districts.

  2. 1996

Since 1996, AZERÇAY has been produced at the “Sun-Tea” tea-packaging factory operating under “Azersun Holding”, entering the Azerbaijani market as the first national tea brand. This tea is made from high-quality teas gathered from the tea plantations grown in the Lankaran and Astara regions in the south of Azerbaijan. With its high-quality black and green tea varieties, the AZERÇAY brand has also won great acclaim on the world market.

Today AZERÇAY is also present on the tea markets of countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the USA... Many different brands of tea are available on the market, and among them AZERÇAY stands out for its distinctive place and role. Reflecting the naturalness and freshness of Azerbaijani tea, AZERÇAY fully meets the needs of its particular consumer group. For this reason, the target audience of the AZERÇAY brand consists mainly of people who wish to drink traditional Azerbaijani tea, who enjoy tea with distinctive fruit and herbal blends, and who, attached to their native and local tea, do not wish to replace it with any other brand.

  3. 2005-2007

In 2005 and 2007, at the 3rd and 5th World Tea and Coffee Festivals, AZERÇAY was awarded gold medals and certificates in the “black, aromatic tea” category.

At the same time, for its full compliance with world standards, its high level of quality and its hygiene and safety indicators, the AZERÇAY product has received ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000 certificates.

  4. 2010

Having won the high regard of Russian consumers, the AZERÇAY brand generated ever greater demand for its tea. For this reason, from 2010 onwards AZERÇAY began to be produced on a mass scale at the newly built “Kuban Tea” tea factory in the town of Belorechensk, Krasnodar Krai, Russian Federation.
